The Best Driving Roads In California

California is my home state, and I feel lucky to have so many great driving roads within easy reach.

With so many options, ranging from coastal roads such as the famous Pacific Coast Highway to twisty, mountain routes, a driving enthusiast such as yourself could spend weeks and weeks driving just in California.

The following are just some of the best driving roads in California and I suggest you put them to good use.

As always, watch out for speed traps and, most importantly, make sure your and everyone else using the roads stays safe.

Recommended Routes

Pacific Coast Highway - Route 1
Driving along the Pacific Coast Highway, in the sun, top down, wind blowing through my (remaining) hair is one of my all time favorite passtimes.

The sky is blue, the Ocean is an even deeper blue and, when added to the sound made by a powerfull engine, I just don't think it gets any better. It is my number 1 road and I never get trired of it. Try for yourself.

Death Valley and Mountains - California and Nevada Border
Here is how to combine a Vegas trip with an amazing drive through desert and high mountain roads. Leaving Las Vegas is always hard, but this drive makes the pain go away.

But maybe drive this road the way I do it. Start from the California side and finish up in Las Vegas. Which ever way you drive it - just do it and you will be a winner!

Pinnacles National Monument - California Route 25
Not a long drive - just about 50 miles - but it is a great test of man and machine. It can be a little bumpy in places but there will not be much traffic on the road to spoil your enjoyment.

If you find yourself on Route 101 and want a little fun, make the detour to Route 25 and have yourself a drive past Pinnacles National Monument - well worth the time.

California Route 33 By John Clark
John Clark was kind enough to submit one of his favoured routes - California Route 33 from Ventura to Santa Margarita (including route 58).

This 180 mile route is described by John as a road "that must be experienced" - and who are we to argue with this Porsche driver. Go out and drive.

Glendora Mountain Road By Chris
Chris from automotive.com was kind enough to recommend am excellent driving road in sunny southern California.

This 20 or so mile route (depending on your route) is easy to access for the southern california crown and has lots of twists and turns to challange your skills.
